2008 TOP TRACKS CHALLENGE SERIES RULES

1.     The Rules and/or regulations set forth herein do not express or imply warranty of said publication of or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. They are intended guidelines for the conduct of the Top Tracks Challenge Series and in no way a guarantee against injury to participants.

 

2.     These rules and/or regulations will apply to Top Tracks Challenge Series sanctioned events.

 

3.     Top Tracks Challenge Series officials shall have full authority over said sanctioned events, and in the event of any dispute, the head official’s decision will be final.

 

4.     All are subject to be inspected by the Top Track Challenges technical inspectors at any time during the event.

 

5.     The Top Tracks Challenge Series reserves the right to alter or amend these and/or regulations in the interests of fair competition.

 

6.    RACEIVERS ARE MANDATORY FOR THE 2008 RACING SEASON!

 

REGISTRATION AND SIGN IN:

A.    Each driver must sign in during the designated times before the drivers meeting at each event to draw for a qualifying spot. 

B.    Each driver must pay their entry fee at the sign in.

 

RACE PROCEDURES:

A.    Each driver will take one lap on the clock during qualifications with that driver’s official time. 

B.    The top ten (10) qualifiers will be locked into the A-main event. Drivers qualifying from 11th on back will line up for B main events by qualifying.  The number of B mains and number of laps and transfer positions will be determined by the car count.

C.    B main transfers to the A main will start behind the top ten qualifiers

D.    Positions 23-24 are used for Top Tracks Challenge Series provisionals.

 

QUALFYING:

A.    Drivers must qualify in the order in which they drew for qualifications and each driver qualifies in the proper order and will receive one (1) lap.

B.    Drivers that miss their spot will not qualify.

 

CHANGES AND SUBISTUTIONS:

A.    A driver may go to a back up car BEFORE QUALIFICATIONS.  Back up cars may not be entered after a driver qualifies his primary car.

B.    A driver already qualified for the A main may go to another car qualified for the A main and start at the end of the field.

 

SPIN RULES:

A.    Any car spinning out twice (2) and bringing out the caution flag will be black flagged and sent to the pits.

B.    On initial star of a race, if contact is made causing a car or cars to spin out and no laps are completed the cars involved will get their respective starting spots back for the complete restart.

 

START AND RESTART:

A.    If a driver jumps the original start of a race, the caution flag will come out, and the drivers that jumped the start will get one warning.

B.    If the same driver jumps the second time, the car or cars will be penalized one row.

C.    If a driver jumps a single file restart, that driver will be penalized for each car that has been passed.  The driver will be moved back in the running order at the next caution from the position he was running at the time of the restart, or at the end of the, whichever comes first.

 

APPROVED SEALED CRATE ENGINES:

A.    GM part number 88958602 is approved for use in competition.

B.    GM part number 88958604 is approved for use in competition.

C.    Other manufactures, sealed crate engines with the same or close to the same horsepower rating such as Ford & Dodge may be allowed as soon as they are available and have been approved for competition by Top Tracks Series Officials.

D.    GM Engines may be purchased at any GM dealer.

E.     The sealed engines must remain intact and not be tampered with; any seals that have been removed or tampered with will make the engine illegal and not eligible for competition with the Top Tracks Challenge.

F.     No changes are allowed to the engine (intake manifold, heads, valve covers, oil pan, harmonic balancer or any other part /or parts on/or in the engine.

G.    No vacuum pumps.

H.    All crate engines must remain stock as they came sealed from the factory. Crate Engines must not be altered, modified or changed from factory specs.

 

ENGINE SETBACK:

A.    Engine setback will be 6” inches from center of top ball joint to the most forward spark plug on the jig-frame car and 8” inches from center of top ball joint to the most forward spark plug on the snout car. ½ inch max. Tolerance on engine setback.

 

FRAME:

A.    All frames must be of steel construction.

B.    Square or rectangular frame must have a minimum of 2” by 2” material, .083-wall thickness.

C.    If round tube frame, tubing must have a minimum of 1-3/4” outside diameter, .083 wall thickness.

 

WHEEL BASE:

A.    Minimum wheelbase for jig and snout car will be 103” inches.

 

ROLL CAGE:

A.    All cars must have a suitable steel roll cage protecting the driver’s compartment, including headrest.

B.    Side roll bars are mandatory, and must extend into the door panels. A minimum of three (3) bars must be used on the left side.

C.    Each bar must be at least 1- 1/2” in diameter, with a minimum material thickness of .083”.

D.    Roll cages must be welded to frame.

 

BODY:

A.    Standard Super Late Model specs. (SEE DRAWINGS)< Click Here

B.    Spoilers may have a maximum size of 12” height, by 72” width.

C.    Note: Gurney Flaps or Curls are allowed along the upper edge of the spoiler, but their length will be included in all measurements,

spoilers will be measured according to total length of and width of material, in any shape.

D.    No mirrors, radios or communication equipment allowed in car at any time.

 

SAFETY:

A.    All cars must have 3” inch seat belts with shoulder harness and must be attached to roll cage.

B.    We strongly recommend that all cars have an approved fire extinguisher system, securely mounted, within easy reach of the driver. A 5 lb. Halon System is recommended.

C.    All drivers must wear a complete fire suit.

 

NUMBER:

A.    Number must be at least 18” inches high and on both sides and top of car.

B.    All cars must have a number.

 

WATER PUMP:

A.    Cast or aluminum permitted.

B.    No electric water pump.

 

FUEL PUMP:

A.    Mechanical pump only, No electric pump.

 

DISTRIBUTOR:

A.    Any ignition with the exception of magnetos (No magnetos.)

B.    There is a $300.00 claim rule on all ignition boxes.

C.    Must finish in the top ten and be on the lead lap to claim an ignition box. You may claim the ignition box of any one that finish’s in front of you. All CLAIMS must be filed along with claim fee of $300.00 (CASH ONLY) to the Tech inspector within 5 min. of the completion of the race. If a driver refuses to sell there ignition box, he or she will be disqualified.                     

 

CARBURETOR:

A.    One four-barrel carburetor only of any manufacture.

B.    Engine must be naturally aspirated.

C.    May use one carburetor spacer (1 inch total thickness + .040 Tolerance) (No part of spacer may enter intake plenum) and two standard one-piece paper gaskets (maximum 0.070 inch thick), one gasket between intake to spacer and one gasket between spacer to carburetor.

 

STARTER:

A.    All cars must have starter in working order.

 

EXHAUST:

A.    Collector type headers required.

B.    Mufflers not required unless track mandates.

C.    No deliberate air leaks, vents, holes, etc.

 

BRAKES:

A.    Four-wheel disc brakes permitted.

B.    No carbon fiber brake parts permitted.

 

FUEL CELL / FUEL:

A.    An approved fuel cell (32 gallon maximum) must be securely mounted in the trunk area of the car, inside a .20 gauge metal box supported by a minimum of two 2” inch by 1/ 8” inch steel straps.

B.    All fuel cells must be completely visible from rear of car.

C.    Fuel cell must not be mounted lower than bottom of quick-change rear end.

D.    Gas only - no alcohol - no nitrous oxide, nitro methane or other nitrate additives.

E.     No propylene oxide.

 

 

TRANSMISSION:

A.    Must have at least one forward and one reverse gear in working order.

B.    Automatic transmission permitted. Must have torque converter or manual fluid by-pass valve system.

C.    No straight drives or in and out boxes.

D.    Drive shafts must be painted white—Carbon Fiber drive shafts are legal.

 

WHEELS:

A.    Any brand or type of wheel allowed must be mounted with lug nuts.

B.    No knock-off or center lock wheels.

C.    Maximum wheel width - 14” inches.

 

TIRES:

A.    Hoosier D-55, D-21, 1350, 1600 only. (No Star 55’s allowed)

B.    Tires must have all numbers and name on the tire No grinding off of numbers or names, any tire that has been altered will be illegal. 

C.   2 LAPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR FLAT TIRE FEATURE EVENT ONLY

 

WEIGHT:

A.    GM Crate Engine # 88958602 – 2200 lbs.

B.    GM Crate Engine # 88958604 – 2350 lbs.

C.    A ten (10) pound scale variance will be allowed after feature events only. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

D.    Series reserves the right to adjust weights in interest of competition should it deem necessary.

E.     Attached weight must be securely bolted to frame with ½” or larger bolts and painted white or silver with car number clearly painted

on them.

F.     All cars must have specified weight posted on top right side of roof.

G.    Series officials have the right to weight any car at any time.

H.    After qualifying all cars will proceed to scales to be weight immediately after the event has been completed.

I.      The top three finishers in the feature event will proceed directly to the scales to be weighed.

 

TECHNICAL INSPECTION:

A.    Series officials reserve the right to tech any car at any time during the event.

B.    All cars will be inspected by series officials before hot laps

 

REPAIR & REBUILD PROGRAM

The Top Tracks Challenge has in place a network of Authorized Crate Engine repair and rebuild centers. All repairs and rebuilds must be done by one of these Authorized Repair/ Rebuild Centers. The engine will be repaired or rebuilt and sealed according to the engine manufactures guidelines provided by the manufacture of the engine. PROTEST FEES:

1.     Any crate engine protested must be reassembled and resealed by one of the Authorized Repair/ Rebuild Centers.

$400.00        Oil Pan

$500.00       Cam Shaft

2.     Any item not listed in protest fees is considered a visual protest item and must be protested before race and not after.

3.     Must finish in the top three and be on the lead lap to protest. May protest the car in front of you only. Any car in the top three found illegal at scales or Series regular tech may not protest. All protest must be filed along with protest fee (CASH ONLY) to the inspector within 5 min. of the completion of the race. Protested driver will have the right to protest the car that filed the original protest. A 5 min. time limit will apply after the inspector notifies the protested driver.

4.     Refusing to teardown, you automatically forfeit all prize money and points for that race.

5.     Teardown time 1-hour maximum from the time the inspector gives permission to start. If more than one item is protested inspector may allow extra time for teardown.

6.     Protested car may have three people at teardown. Two to teardown and the third being driver, owner or representative. Protesting driver may have one being driver / owner or representative. All persons will conduct themselves in a sportsman like manner.  If not inspector can and will call off protest, disqualify or bar persons that do not behave accordingly.

7.     The moment teardown or inspection begins Top Tracks Challenge Series will retain 20% of all protest fees regardless of the outcome. If driver refuses to teardown the driver that filed the protest will be refunded 100% of his or her money. If protested driver is found legal he or she will receive 80% of money filed by protesting driver. If the car is found illegal the protesting driver will be refunded 80% of his or her money.

8.     Inspector’s discretion will be utilized in determining cars legality, Ruling will be final.

9.    If outside sources are needed to check the legality of a car, then all purse money will be held                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      and mailed out after officials decision is made and the purse will be adjusted if needed to the     outcome.  This will only take place on single day events and not doubleheader weekends

 

PENALTIES FOR ENGINE INFRACTION

1ST Infraction

Disqualification of race, 0 points, $0.00 in prize money won during the race, 30-day suspension from Top Track Challenge and a $500.00 fine. The $500.00 fine must be paid before you can return to competition.  

 

2nd Infraction

Disqualification of race, 0 points, $0.00 in prize money won during the race and suspension from Top Track Challenge for the remainder of the current season.
